Hi there,
I read this interesting evidence of resilience and I’d like to share with you
This paper has been written by Li (2008) and published in the College Student Journal.
As we know, living on campus, going through a life transition from adolescencehood to early adulthood, and different ways of learning and settings will give a greater pressure and stress to the college students.
Students may face similar situation and it depends on how adaptable and adjustable the student is. In this paper, finding shows that active coping is a crucial factor in order to contribute a successful adaptation. Li also found that a secure attachment is a predictive factor to cope actively in a stresful environment. However, stress and resilience are not interacted on students’ active coping.
In this study, resilience is defined as any personality characteristic that moderates any negative effects of stress and promotes adaptations (Wignild & Young, 1993, in Li, 2008).
In my research, resilience concept is a coping process by looking at the risk and protectives factors in adapting in a new environment that may contributes stress to an individual.
So far, in my pilot test, as protective factors are concerned, ’existence’ of life partner plays an important role in adapting well in the environment to support one’s affectively and cognitively (Emma, 2008 – not published yet).
Interesting yeah! I want my life partner now to adjust well here in London…!! hahahha… xoxo!

Yup yup yup…I do so agree with you…a life partner is definitely important…I think that after 6 months, I’m losing my resilience…stress is definitely catching up with me…emotional stress due to separation and the lack of a nice warm body to rest my head on and comfort me…and cognitive stress…trying to wrap my mind around this phd thing…I’m definitely losing my confidence in my ability to carry out a phd research…not to mention the stress of having to cope with warring supervisors! I woke up this morning with a fever, aching body and a headache, forced myself to drive Iman to daycare, cooked lunch for Bayu and then slept for 3 hours. Felt better, so decided to vacuum the house before picking up Iman…now my fever and headache is back, and I’m trying to read what Vygotsky wrote back in 1933!
Now I just want to go home and have someone take care of me. In desperate need of some tender, loving, care….
God is important too. He is always there when others are not. But of course, partner can be friends. Friends can be considered as partner in life. They are physically here on earth.
